Whether your interests are study, research or business development we have the right facilities and specialist equipment you need.
Our Arts and Media Centre is a purpose-built teaching and production facility. It features over 120 Apple Intel computers and all the current major software packages you would expect in a professional environment including Apple Final Cut Studio, Logic Pro, iLife, Adobe CS4, After Effects and Autodesk 3DS Max. In addition, we have specialist areas dedicated to high-end production such as video editing suites, audio mix studio, audio recording booths and photographic studio with printing and scanning facilities. Our Kit Room offers hardware equipment, such as video and photography cameras, microphones and field recording equipment for production work.
The Edric Hall in the Borough Road Building is a contemporary performance space and theatre, comprising a main auditorium with a large performance area and seating for 60. It also has a smaller performance and rehearsal studio and a third smaller space suitable for seminars and more intimate events. All spaces are fitted with lighting and sound equipment for performance and AV teaching resources.
Our Education courses are based across three floors of LSBU's new sustainable and technically-advanced landmark building, K2. The purpose built space, opened in late 2009, includes academic offices, a resource room and specialist classrooms for ICT, maths, research, PE and dance.
The University has invested in Facilities that will inspire
Our Psychology labs in the Joseph Lancaster Building provide six individual research testing cubicles, three specialist rooms (a workshop/chemical lab, Eye tracker/Physiology suite and a soft interviewing room) and a small seminar/computer lab. We have 30 PCs all equipped with a range of psychological software which includes experimental generators such as SuperLab (version 2 & 4) and E-prime, Observational software (Noldus Observer), Physiological analysis (Acknowledge), Coglab and SPSS. The laboratory is well resourced for psychometric assessment and currently stocks around 1500 specialist test items.
The Department of Urban, Environment & Leisure Studies (UELS) is home to the University's Spatial Analysis and Informatics Lab (SAIL). This Geographic Information Systems (GIS) facility has 30 networked computers fully equipped with GIS software, plus printing, scanning and projection facilities. SAIL is an excellent platform for applied research, including geographically based clinical datasets for health providers or social and cultural research. GIS is also used by commercial organisations looking at retail or logistics. The department also houses a Student Resources Centre with a collection of printed resources including past student dissertations and urban design portfolios.
We really do have the equipment and facilities you need to pursue your academic and research goals.
