Our vision

We have an important, enduring and consistent mission to create student opportunity for future success. We have much to be proud of and aspire to be the best in our field. We intend to make this happen by implementing our vision.

To be the most admired UK university for creating professional opportunity. We intend to be a source of pride to our students, our staff and the communities we serve.

Investing in our future

With careful financial planning we're ensuring the successful future of LSBU. Over the past five years we've invested over £50m in modern teaching facilities. In the near future, this programme is continuing with a further £38m going to create a new student centre due to be completed late next year. Also, our new Enterprise Centre opens early 2013 to showcase the entrepreneurial capabilities of students and staff, where they'll be able to make connections with business and industry. Our student community will also benefit from a new Students' Union building due to open in 2012. Find out more by reading LSBU's Financial Statements.

Across all our courses you'll find a range of facilities that support and develop our students throughout their studies. Our ongoing investment and development in staff, systems, infrastructure and facilities support academic endeavours at every stage.

Quality throughout

The quality of teaching and achievement at LSBU is excellent. This is borne out by the fact that in the Guardian University League Tables 2011 we're in the top 25% of all universities for adding value to students by granting highly relevant degrees that improve career prospects. Our ongoing programme of investments in our teaching environment ensures students have the right environment, including contact time with staff and support services, as well as modern, functional facilities, to realise their aspirations.

We're the most popular university for businesses seeking relevant expertise and knowledge to improve their productivity and performance through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and are ranked first for adult nursing and second for learning disability nursing in London. All of our courses are developed in partnership with industry and the majority are accredited by leading professional bodies.

Widening access to study

Students in a lecture

LSBU is proud to be a UK leader in providing education to students from non-standard backgrounds, often who are the first in their families to go to university. We exceed all national benchmarks for widening access, and our focus for campus investment reinforces our support to all students to help them succeed. We offer many access routes into education and many flexible study options.

Around half of our students study part-time and with day release and distance learning available to many of our postgraduate students we always have something fresh to offer. We run many programmes in local schools creating opportunity for students to experience university before they join us and a strong programme of Student Ambassadors who work as education mentors in local schools.

We're always interested in finding out what our students think of their LSBU experience. The university was recently nominated for a top award for our pioneering Student Shadowing Scheme, which offers academics and staff the opportunity to experience the life of a modern University student first-hand.
