Dr Vireen Limbachiya is a lecturer in Civil Engineering and works in the School of Built Environment and Architecture. He specialises in sustainability and application of sustainable materials in the construction industry. He completed his MSc in low carbon building design and modelling at Loughborough University and then went onto complete his PhD at Coventry University, where his research focused on the improving the sustainability of concrete through the of cement replacements.
He joined LSBU in 2016 where he teaches materials and geology, sustainable construction and construction practice to Civil Engineering students.
The modules that Dr Vireen Limbachiya teaches are Materials and Geology, Construction Practice and Sustainable Construction. In Materials and Geology students are introduced to the properties of a variety of engineering materials and their application within the construction industry and also gain an appreciation of how design and workmanship affect real structural behaviour. In Construction Practice students are introduced to skills they require for their professional careers and also introduced to and taught how to use BIM software. In Sustainable Construction students gain an understanding of legislation and practices that are currently in place in order to assess the sustainability of the built environment and how BIM software can be used to improve the sustainability of a project.
