Richard qualified as a Registered General Nurse from the Harrogate and Northallerton College of Nursing Studies. He completed a BSc (Hons) and an MSc in Nursing at St Bartholomew School of Nursing and Midwifery, a Diploma in Dental Nursing with City and Guilds and is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate at LSBU.

Richard’s teaching experience includes vocational health and social care education, as well as project management. He is registered as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission.

His clinical experience includes:

  • Care of the older person
  • Dental nursing
  • General medicine
  • General surgery
  • Intermediate care
  • Ophthalmology and diabetic eye complication screening service
  • Respiratory medicine
  • Urological surgery

Richard is an Associate Professor in the Institute of Vocational Learning within the School of Health and Social Care. It is well known across London for delivering timely, responsive bespoke training and accredited courses for both health and social care support workers and registered professional staff.

Richard has received the following recognition for teaching:

  • Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2012)
  • Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators (2013)
  • Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2016)

Richard is a previous Secretary to the International Association of Dental Research Education Research Group (ERG).
