Prof. Warwick specialises in all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment with particular reference to learning and development in the mathematical sciences and the application of mathematics in business and management.

Having completed a first degree in Mathematics and Computing in 1979, Jon was awarded a PhD in Operational Research by the CNAA in 1984. He has more than 30 years of experience in teaching mathematical modelling, operational research and research methods in the UK Higher Education sector and has extensive experience in course design and course management, quality assurance and enhancement, research and research supervision.

He was Head of the Division of Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research at London South Bank University (LSBU) for eleven years before changing focus to lead the development of learning and teaching within the (then) Faculty of Business, holding the post of Faculty Director of Learning and Teaching. He is currently Professor of Educational Development in the Mathematical Sciences at LSBU and chairs the university-wide Technology Enhanced Learning Group. He is also an experienced examiner of doctoral students and Chair of subject reviews, validations and doctoral examinations.

Jon has more than 30 years of experience in teaching within Higher Education ranging from introductory and foundation courses to doctoral studies.  His teaching currently focuses on business research methods at undergraduate, Master's and doctoral levels  and covers both qualitative and quantitative research philosophies.

He has experience of teaching in the following areas:  Management science and business decision support (L5-L7); Quantitative methods and statistical decision making (L4-L8); and Business project management (L7).  All areas of teaching are underpinned by relevant research and teaching scholarship.

Prof. Warwick’s research interests include the teaching of mathematics, mathematical modelling and business decision support (with particular emphasis on enhancing student engagement, self-efficacy and reducing mathematical anxiety), systems thinking and organisational learning.

He also has interests in Higher Education management, with an emphasis on policy definition in learning and teaching, and has recently co-edited a book entitled Higher Education Management and Operational Research:  Demonstrating New Practices and Metaphors.  He has published in all these areas extensively and is a regular contributor to conferences both within the UK and internationally as a stream coordinator and presenter.

He has supervised a number of doctoral students both within the UK and at partner institutions abroad and Jon’s research outputs were submitted to RAE 1996, 2001, 2008 and REF 2014.
