Margaret Hollins joined LSBU in 1992 after qualifying and working as a solicitor in private practice and teaching at a college of further education. She has degrees in Law (LLB, LLM) from the Universities of Leicester and London respectively. Her main areas of teaching are planning and environmental law and policy. She is also her subject area's lead for student support and pastoral care.

Margaret's consultancy and associated publications have focused on the effectiveness of implementation of environmental initiatives such as Local Agenda 21 and Going for Green. She has been involved in the delivery of a range of continuing professional development (CPD) programmes to professional bodies including the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). 

She contributed a chapter update, The Law Relating to Noise to Peters RJ, Smith BJ and Hollins M, (2011) Acoustics and Noise Control 3rd edition, Prentice Hall.

Margaret is a member of the University-RTPI Partnership Board.

Margaret's areas of interest include sustainable development and climate change, human rights and international environmental law.
