Anna Jones is the course director for BA (Hons) Education Studies (work-based) and a senior lecturer in the Education Department. She is particularly passionate about the use of quality children's literature supported by talk and drama to engage learners and cultivate a love of reading and writing. 

Anna has a PGCE in Primary Education from the University of Plymouth. Anna started her teaching career in South Yorkshire 12 years ago, where she held the roles of ICT Coordinator and Assessment leader. She has been a class teacher in inner London Primary schools for the past 7 years, continuing the role of ICT subject leader and latterly becoming part of the Senior Leadership Team as Phase Leader for Lower Key Stage 2.

During her career, Anna has also taken on the roles of student teacher mentor; NQT mentor and Teaching Assistant mentor and particularly values the opportunity to use her skills in this area to support LSBU students whilst on placement in educational settings.

Anna’s teaching interests include the pedagogy and practicalities of teaching English to Primary aged children. She is passionate about the use of quality children's literature supported by talk and drama to engage young learners and cultivate a love of reading and writing. She also enjoys teaching on modules which focus on alternative education settings and learning environments, the barriers to learning faced by vulnerable groups, and technology in education. Anna also acts as a University Supervising Tutor, coaching and mentoring trainee teachers during school placements.

Anna is the author of a book chapter about supporting looked after children in education. She is currently completing her MA in Education. Her primary research interest is in the field of children’s social and emotional wellbeing in relation to learning and educational outcomes. She is currently developing research into the educational outcomes of children who experience familial imprisonment.
