LSBU Men’s Rugby Team win university league for the first time in 22 years

LSBSU Men's Rugby Team have won the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) South Eastern Conference Bowl league against UCFB at Brunel
13 March 2019

In an exciting game, LSBU Student Union (LSBSU) was the first team to score a try after nearly half an hour of play. UCFB then scored a try and converted. Within the final ten minutes of the game, LSBSU proved to be the stronger team and scored two tries in quick succession and converted the final one, to come away with the tightly fought 17-7 point victory.

Phil Newman, Deputy Director of Student Services and Head of Sport at LSBU, said:

"From a foundation of hard work, determination and passion, in July 2017 our men’s rugby team returned home with a silver medal from the UK-China University Games. It comes as no surprise that this foundation has resulted in further accolades over the ensuing years, the latest of which has seen them crowned BUCS champions."

“This is a fantastic achievement which reinforces LSBUs standing as an institution that breeds and supports champions, well done to the guys – you’ve done us proud.”

The last time the LSBSU team achieved this level of success in the competition was 22 years ago.
