London South Bank University (LSBU) has been shortlisted for the Duke of York Award for University Entrepreneurship in the 2016 Lloyds Bank National Business Awards. The Award recognises the work of universities to encourage and support entrepreneurial opportunities for students and alumni.

The Award criteria reviews the level and quality of entrepreneurship activity and teaching provided through curricular, cross-campus and extra-curricular support. It also looks at small business internships and the level of start-up support provided to students and alumni.

In the 2015-16 academic year, LSBU engaged over 5,000 students and graduates in enterprise-related activities, including support for starting and growing their own business.

Linsey Cole, Head of LSBU’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute, said:

“It’s brilliant that LSBU has been recognised for the entrepreneurial support that we provide students and graduates. We strive to provide a wide range of exciting workshops and start-up programmes for our students and graduates. This nomination is further testament to the drive our students and graduates have to achieve their entrepreneurial potential.”

Now in its 15th year, the National Business Awards is the flagship awards programme for recognising and rewarding excellence in business, public, private or the third sector. The award ceremony will take place on 15 November 2016 at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.

Gurpreet Jagpal, LSBU’s Director of Research, Enterprise and Innovation, said:

"We’re delighted to be one of the National Business Awards finalists. One of our key ambitions as a university is to support all of our students and alumni to achieve their entrepreneurial potential as business owners and as entrepreneurial employees. The nomination reflects our collaborative approach to delivering enterprise support, harnessing expertise from across LSBU’s Schools and professional services, and working in partnership with our enterprise societies and SME partners."
